The thin line is a realm between the past and future where dancer Yuki Furukawa positioned herself while a line scan camera recorded the unfolding rhythm. Through blades of springtime grass, clothed in red, Furukawa’s dance echoed the pulse of a heart or the blooming of a flower as it emerged from this shimmering crease of time wedged between the two infinities of the past and future.
Made with a stream of one-dimensional slices, Furukawa’s dance was recorded and assembled into long creating a worldline snapshot. It holds a pinpoint of trajectory through space-time and appears abstract while maintaining its documentary quality because it’s directly photographed and not manipulated in the computer.
